The Challenge
Daily Mail & General Trust (DMGT) needed to sell its former printworks near Didcot, Oxfordshire. Having been designed-and-built to house printing presses, the 250,000 sq ft building is highly specialised – incorporating high ceilings, strengthened floors, and large power supply – and required a similar specialised sales approach. We were appointed to manage the sale for DMGT.
The Solution
Our first move was to recommend the premises were stripped and the accommodation made good, making it potentially usable for alternative uses. During strip-out, we targeted potential buyers in a variety of sectors, including: data centres; engineering; scientific research; secure storage; and film sector. We also fielded approaches from the commercial development market.
The Results
Following several bidding rounds, locally-based film and gaming company Rebellion emerged as the preferred party. Rebellion acquired the freehold interest to create their own film studio facility, and DMGT successfully sold the asset within their timeframes and at the best price possible.
