I’m a Partner here at Gerald Eve, based in our Birmingham office. I have considerable general practice experience and specialise in rating and lease consultancy issues.
I currently advise clients on all types of property including general industrial, variety stores, unit shops, offices, warehouses, licensed premises, retail warehouses, restaurants and specialist units such as pharmacies in order to mitigate their business rates liabilities. I am also one of the few rating consultants who has experience in dealing with large shop rating appeals and handle appeals nationally on behalf of clients such as The University of Nottingham, Boots UK, ATS Euromaster and Stonegate Pub Company.
As well as Poundland and Loungers UK Limited, I am responsible for the day-to-day account management of several of our clients. I offer them strategic advice to ensure that all available opportunities are taken to minimise cost liabilities but to maximise operational efficiencies across these sometimes-diverse portfolios.
MY RECENT PROJECTS
- Boots UK Ltd – I provided, as part of the ongoing rating instruction, a strategic review on the pharmacy portfolio with a view to identifying areas where rate liabilities could be mitigated by challenging the existing adopted basis of valuation.
- Samworth Brothers Limited – I undertook a historic rates audit on a sample of the current portfolio to identify potential overpayments leading to securing just under £35,000 refunds
- Nottinghamshire County Council – I provided detailed business rate liability budgets and forecast advice for the whole portfolio together with carrying out an historic rates audit that led to savings of more than £250,000.
